Designing a Logo for Wish: Blending Hope and Science
I recently had the opportunity to partner with Wish, a consortium based out of UCLA dedicated to advancing the science and practice of healthcare worker well-being improvement. Their multiprofessional team develops rigorous measurement tools and evidence-based frameworks to drive meaningful, systems-level change. At the core of their mission is a belief I deeply connect with: that improving our systems can create more sustainable and fulfilling careers in healthcare.
When Wish approached me to design their new logo, the challenge was clear: create a brand identity that could live in the healthcare space, but also stand out as something bold, forward-thinking, and full of possibility. We didn’t want the design to be locked into the familiar visual tropes of healthcare. Instead, we wanted to lean into the very name itself: Wish.
Wish is more than just a hopeful name. It is also a meaningful acronym. Standing for the Well-being Influencers Survey for Healthcare, it captures the organization’s commitment to measurement, research, and systems-level improvement. Just as importantly, it conveys the universal desire we all share: to build a future where healthcare workers can thrive.

From Sketch to Symbol
Through our early sketch process, the client was drawn to the imagery of a blowing dandelion. It is a simple, recognizable symbol of hope and possibility, both of which connect beautifully with the idea of creating healthier, more sustainable futures for those working in healthcare. The dandelion became the centerpiece of the visual language.
At the same time, it was important to highlight Wish’s commitment to data-driven solutions. To bring in this quantitative side, we shaped the “W” to echo the look of a graph line. It is a subtle but purposeful nod to the scientific rigor behind their work.

A Brand That Bridges Science and Hope
The final logo brings together these two worlds: symbolic imagery that connects on a human level, and structured design elements that reflect the consortium’s evidence-based approach. It is a mark that reflects change, leadership, and optimism, while still fitting confidently into the professional healthcare space.
For me, this project was a rewarding blend of creativity and strategy. Wish’s mission is vital, and I am grateful to have contributed a piece of their visual story as they continue their important work to improve the lives of healthcare workers everywhere.
